On February 11, 2015, I will be delivering a webinar for the Ontario Nonprofit Network (ONN) entitled "Advocacy and Political Activities: Busting myths and misconceptions!"

Here is the information on the webinar:

Webinar Wednesdays: Advocacy and Political Activities: Busting myths and misconceptions!

It’s time to clear away the myths and misconceptions!

Political activity by charities has been a hot button issue since 2012, when new reporting requirements were asked of charities- and additional resources were provided to the Canada Revenue Agency to audit charities’ political activities. While nonprofits are not limited to the kinds of political activities they can do, there are rules for registered charities. So, why does advocacy matter for the sector? Because it’s a critical way to bring community voices and perspectives to decision makers in government. It’s an important part of what the nonprofit sector can do as we work on the ground in communities.

Join us February 11 to learn how charities can make use of their 10% and get familiar with the rules under the Income Tax Act, with charity lawyer Mark Blumberg.

During this one hour webinar, you’ll learn:

The Importance of Political Activities- what’s the point?
What charities can and cannot do in the political realm
Rules for political activities and registered charities
When lobbyist registration is necessary
Recent developments affecting political activities and its impact on charities
