The CRA announced today that they are delaying the Charities IT Modernization Project (CHAMP) till June 2019. When CHAMP is launched, charities will no longer be able to make application by paper application and will have to use the CHAMP system. As well, although not required, charities will be able to file the T3010 under the CHAMP system. Because all charity applications will need to go through CHAMP, it is ideal that it works seamlessly and if that means a delay of 6 or 7 months, I don't think many people will care.
We will update you on this important initiative. Also, I would really appreciate it if there is much more public communication about CHAMP before the launch. Hearing very little about it, I am not surprised that it has been delayed. Also, with the nice little surprise that Finance delivered to CRA on Friday, I think CRA is going to have their hands full on other matters for the next few months. Just saying!

Important update on the Charities IT Modernization Project (CHAMP)
I am writing to provide you with an important update on the Charities IT Modernization Project (CHAMP), which will provide charities with online services through the Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA) My Business Account service.
I am pleased to report that most of the project components are nearly complete, but work remains to be done to finalize development of certain elements and conduct integration and testing activities.
We have consulted with project partners and explored options to ensure that CHAMP delivers all functionality described in Budget 2014 and performs well for the charitable sector. After careful consideration, we are postponing CHAMP’s release until June 2019 to ensure the success of the project.
We are confident that this approach provides us with the best opportunity to deliver an effective user- centric solution for our charitable sector clients. It will give us additional time to complete the development and the testing of all e-services, which will reduce the administrative burden on charities. It will also allow us to engage representatives of the charitable sector to participate during the testing phase, to help ensure that our new e-services work well for our clients.
