Here is the description of my presentation:
2:35 PM - 3:35 PM - SESSION 7: Professional Advisors and Philanthropy: Helping Clients and Yourself Navigate Philanthropy
Speaker: Mark Blumberg, Partner, Blumberg Segal LLP
Professional advisors can play a key role with clients, their philanthropic structure and philanthropic choices. Many clients at a certain point in their lives are more interested in giving money away than making it. Professional advisors need to understand this change or be at risk for prematurely losing their most valuable clients. Canadians donate about $16 billion per year and professional advisors can assist clients in being more strategic and being creating greater impact in the use of their charitable resources. There are lots of options and what is right for one client may be a disaster for another. Join charity lawyer Mark Blumberg as he discusses philanthropy, the role of professional advisors, planned giving, options for philanthropy such as donor-advised funds versus private foundations versus direct gifts, and red flags in selecting charities.
Do you require legal advice with respect to Canadian or Ontario non-profits or charities?
Mark Blumberg is a partner at the law firm of Blumberg Segal LLP in Toronto and works almost exclusively in the areas of non-profit and charity law.
