At the upcoming 2010 AFP Greater Toronto Congress I will be on a panel to discuss “The Great Debate: Charity Ratios and Ranking”

http://www.afptoronto.org/index.php/congress

The Great Debate: Charity Ratios and Ranking Thursday, December 2 9:00AM - 11:45AM
Speakers
Dan Pallotta, Author/ Founder of Pallotta Teamworks
Blumberg, Mark, LL.B., LL.M., TEP, Partner, Blumberg Segal LLP
Mayhew, Ken, Chief Development Officer, Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada
Storey, Susan, CFRE, Vice President, KCI (Ketchum Canada Inc.)
Description

Can deserving and effective charities be determined by ratios and ranking? Is the simplicity of ratios and ranking helping or hurting the non-profit sector and its stakeholders? And what do they actually tell you about a charity? If ratios and ranking are here to stay, what do we as fundraisers need to know to deal with these issues? Also can we as a sector come up with a reasonably good process for evaluating charity effectiveness and if so, how?

The first part of this session will be to discuss the good, bad and ugly of charity ranking. Join us for a fierce but friendly debate on the issue. Following the debate, participate in a hands-on working session to brainstorm and identify meaningful measures for evaluating the effectiveness of charities, including your own.

I will also put on a presentation on:

Mark - Sorry I’m missing the great debate on Dec 2 at AFP.  It’s an important topic.  It’s going to be increasingly tough to avoid the being swamped by the stream of data out of CRA.  It’s funny how sometimes transparency tells us very little.
