Canadian Senators comment on foreign funding and political activities of registered charities
Posted under News
A Canadian Senator Nicole Eaton has been commenting on Canadian charities and a number of senators have spoken in agreement and in disagreement. I wish the Senate had access to better information on the charitable sector.
For example they may find this blog post helpful: http://www.globalphilanthropy.ca/index.php/blog/comments/so_how_much_do_canadian_charities_receive_from_foreign_sources_according_to/
Here is a note from Imagine Canada that is following the comments:
“Senator Eaton spoke on February 28 and her comments can be found at http://www.parl.gc.ca/Content/Sen/Chamber/411/Debates/054db_2012-02-28-e.htm#70.
A number of Senators have since joined the debate:
John Wallace (Conservative, New Brunswick, http://www.parl.gc.ca/Content/Sen/Chamber/411/Debates/055db_2012-02-29-e.htm#46),
Doug Finley (Conservative, New Brunswick, http://www.parl.gc.ca/Content/Sen/Chamber/411/Debates/057db_2012-03-06-e.htm#36),
Daniel Lang (Conservative, Yukon, http://www.parl.gc.ca/Content/Sen/Chamber/411/Debates/057db_2012-03-06-e.htm#36),
Grant Mitchell (Liberal, Alberta, http://www.parl.gc.ca/Content/Sen/Chamber/411/Debates/057db_2012-03-06-e.htm#36) and
Larry Smith (Conservative, Quebec, http://www.parl.gc.ca/Content/Sen/Chamber/411/Debates/058db_2012-03-07-e.htm#45).”
