Here is debate organized by Network For Good involving author and fundraising consultant Dan Pallotta, Ken Berger (Charity Navigator) and Bob Ottenhoff (Guidestar).

Here are Bob’s slides http://www.fundraising123.org/files/NP911/NP911_Bob%20Ottenhoff_2.1.11.pdf and Ken’s cogent argument at http://www.kenscommentary.org/2011/02/uncharitable-webinar-2-1-11.html  When Dan makes his slides publicly available I will add them.  If you have heard Dan speak he takes up the first 50 minutes with his standard presentation and then Bob and Ken are given about 10-15 minutes to respond.  The debate was described as “Does the existing nonprofit ethic undermine our ability to eradicate great problems and put charities at a severe disadvantage to the for-profit sector at every level? Do charity rating systems create backwards priorities, distracting charities from their core work in an effort to win stars? Dan Pallotta raises these questions in his book, Uncharitable: How Restraints on Nonprofits Undermine Their Potential. Join us for a special 90-minute Nonprofit 911 webinar featuring Dan Pallotta along with the leaders of two of the largest charity rating systems: Ken Berger, CEO of Charity Navigator and Bob Ottenhoff, CEO of Guidestar. Don’t miss what’s sure to be a lively debate!”

To view the full 90 minute presentation (you may need to download a viewer from WEBEX and the presentation is about 50MB:
