News release
Donate wisely this holiday season

Ottawa, Ontario, December 6, 2010… The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, encourages all Canadians to donate wisely this holiday season.

“The holiday season is a traditional time of giving for many Canadians,” said Minister Ashfield, “and Canadians want to ensure that the funds they donate will ultimately be put to good work on causes they wish to support. I’d like to take this opportunity to remind Canadians to donate wisely and get important information about registered charities before giving.”

The Charities Listing on the CRA’s Web site can help get you the information you need about registered charities.

You can use the CRA Charities Listings to:

  * confirm charities’ registration status;
  * locate charities in your neighbourhood;
  * learn about charities’ activities and programs; and
  * review charities’ financial information.

Remember, knowing your charity is the first step to being a wise donor.

To learn more about donating wisely, go to http://www.cra.gc.ca/donors, call 1‑800‑267‑2384, or watch the Giving to Registered Charities 101 videocasts on the CRA’s YouTube channel.
