CIDA to initiate consultations in near future, according to Minister Bev Oda

In an article in Embassy Magazine CIDA Minister Bev Oda say that “she plans to hold extensive consultations over the coming months on how to make the agency work better.” 

In the article, it notes that although the government has “broadly defined the specific areas in which CIDA and Canadian assistance will be focusing moving forward, the minister revealed in an hour-long interview with Embassy’s editorial board that many details are still up in the air”.  She noted this will not be an exercise in lip service and that the government is committed to enhancing CIDA and not hollowing out or folding it.  She talked about increasing the number of staff in the field; being more focussed and effective; greater international cooperation and coordination; and having greater internal resources rather than relying so much on external consultants, amongst a number of other matters.
